The entry point to the BMW X world is more appealing than ever. In its third generation, the new BMW X1 features more striking design, greater spaciousness, advanced digitalisation and, for the first time, an all-electric powertrain. Meanwhile, in the new BMW iX1, instantly accessible driving pleasure and modern versatility come together with locally emission-free mobility.

With its robust appearance and functional versatility, the new BMW X1 embodies a genuine sense of freedom and independence for everyday driving and longer journeys. The progressive interior design, sophisticated ambience and much broader selection of standard equipment compared with the previous model underline its deeply rooted Premium character.

At its global launch in October 2022, there will initially be a choice of two petrol engines and two diesel engines, depending on the market. In the Latin American region, the combustion-engine range will offer one petrol and one diesel option. These will be paired as standard with a seven-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch, and their power will be channelled to the road through the front wheels or the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, depending on the model. This initial quartet will be followed immediately by the all-electric BMW iX1 xDrive30 (combined electrical energy consumption in the WLTP cycle: 5.43–5.78 km/kWh; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km; estimates based on the vehicle's current development stage), as well as a pair of plug-in hybrid models. The new BMW X1 will be built at the BMW Group plant in Regensburg, where models with combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems and all-electric powertrains will leave a single assembly line for the first time.

The BMW iX1 will bring the experience of locally emission-free driving pleasure to a vehicle segment enjoying worldwide growth, making it accessible to a very broad target audience. The compact SAV powered by the latest BMW eDrive technology will therefore provide significant momentum for the accelerated growth of electric mobility. The improvements in sustainability compared with the previous model can be attributed not only to extensive electrification measures, but also to the greater use of green energy both in production and throughout the supply chain, as well as increased quantities of secondary raw materials and natural materials.

Design: modern surface treatment, greater visual presence and a robust appearance in the unmistakable style of the BMW X model.

The surface treatment, lines and elegant details of the BMW X1's exterior design express its Sports Activity Vehicle identity more clearly than ever in its third model generation. Distinctive design features include powerful proportions, almost square wheel-arch contours and the characteristic styling of BMW X models at the front and rear.

The upright front end of the new BMW X1 gives it a significantly stronger presence, with slim LED headlights, a large, almost square BMW kidney grille, X-shaped lines extending towards the sides and striking chrome trim at the bottom of the air intake serving as its defining elements. Adaptive LED headlights with a high-beam matrix, pulsing turn indicators and variable light distribution are available as an option.

Expressively sculpted surfaces and a long roofline are the distinguishing features of the new model's dynamically elongated silhouette. Viewed from the rear, the slim tailgate window, horizontal lines, striking LED lights and widened wheel arches create the typical SAV appearance.

The robust aura of the new BMW X1 can be intensified to great effect with xLine model-specific design elements, including elegant bumper protection. The M Sport model, also offered as an alternative to the basic specification, focuses firmly on dynamic driving pleasure with features such as its large cooling air intakes.

All model variants come as standard with 17-inch light-alloy wheels. 18-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted to xLine and M Sport versions, although these models are also available with 19-inch wheels and, for the first time on the BMW X1, 20-inch wheels. Customers can choose between two solid colours and ten metallic exterior paint finishes, including a Frozen paint option from BMW Individual for the first time.

Interior: progressive ambience, versatile space.

An elevated seating position and a progressive Premium ambience in the style of the BMW iX help create a distinctive driving experience inside the compact SAV. Key elements of the redesigned cabin are the slim instrument panel, the BMW Curved Display, the “floating” armrest with integrated control panel and the smartphone tray with indirect lighting at the front of the centre console.

The newly developed seats are available with a choice of perforated Sensatec or Vernasca leather upholstery. The options list also includes sports seats, electric seat adjustment with memory function and lumbar support with massage function. Improvements have been made to both acoustic comfort and occupant protection. The integrated passive safety concept now also includes a new interaction airbag between the front seats.

The rear compartment of the new BMW X1 includes three full-size seats offering a notable improvement in seating comfort. The 40:20:40 split rear-seat backrests can be folded down or adjusted to a different angle to expand boot capacity. The longitudinal adjustment of the rear seats, available as an option for combustion-engine models, provides even greater versatility. Boot capacity can be increased from 540 litres to a maximum of 1,600 litres. The optional trailer coupling for the new BMW X1 is now electrically operated at the touch of a button.

Two-zone automatic climate control, leather sports steering wheel.

A leather sports steering wheel, intelligent two-zone automatic climate control and a rain sensor with automatic headlight activation are standard on the new-generation BMW X1, as are four USB-C ports, two 12V power sockets and a significantly greater number of driver assistance systems compared with the previous model.

Restructured equipment packages enable vehicle-specific personalisation. The Premium character can be raised to another level with optional features such as the mirror package, ambient lighting, panoramic glass sunroof and Harman Kardon sound system.

The BMW iX1: a new era of driving pleasure begins in the compact SAV.

The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the first all-wheel-drive electric vehicle introduced by the brand in the Premium compact segment. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles deliver a combined output of 230 kW/313 hp, taking into account the temporary boost effect, and a total system torque of 494 Nm. The electric all-wheel-drive system ensures outstanding traction and directional stability in all situations. The BMW iX1 xDrive30 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Plug-in hybrid models with greater electric range, and latest-generation combustion engines.

Fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology is also used in the plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW X1, bringing significant advances over the previous generation in terms of sporty ability, efficiency and charging capacity. The electric range has also increased substantially.

The new BMW X1 will be launched in the Latin American region with a selection of combustion engines, including one petrol and one diesel unit, depending on the market, from BMW Group's new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines.

The new BMW X1 sDrive18i (combined fuel consumption: 14.29–15.87 km/l; combined CO2 emissions: 143–158 g/km in the WLTP cycle) is powered by a three-cylinder engine delivering 100 kW/136 hp.

The four-cylinder diesel unit in the new BMW X1 sDrive18d (combined fuel consumption: 18.18–20.41 km/l; combined CO2 emissions: 129–145 g/km in the WLTP cycle) develops 110 kW/150 hp.

Off-road capability offering the optimum combination of agility and ride comfort.

Regardless of the installed powertrain, all new BMW X1 models offer well-resolved handling characteristics in every situation and deliver the driving experience for which the brand is renowned. The sophisticated chassis technology of the compact SAV creates a perfectly harmonious balance between agile, sporty handling on the one hand and long-distance comfort on the other. The necessary ingredients are provided by a body construction that reduces weight while increasing rigidity, a long wheelbase, wider tracks than the previous model and specific improvements to the front axle with a single-joint spring-strut assembly and the three-link rear axle.

An actuator with a near-wheel-slip limit is fitted as standard in the new BMW X1, benefiting both traction and directional stability. Other new features include the integrated braking system and additional lift-related damping on the front axle. The optional M adaptive suspension features frequency-selective damping, sports steering and a 15-millimetre reduction in ride height.
